What personal data we collect and why we collect it
We collect personal data when you interact with our website. We do so in order to operate and improve our business. This could include: developing or improving products or the website; internal financial or administrative purposes; communicating with you about our products or in response to your inquiries; or for legal purposes, such as pursuing or defending legal claims.
We collect personal data from you through this website in the following ways:
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Certain areas of our website have forms that allow you to provide contact information, such as name, email, phone, and company.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
To understand how visitors use our website, we use Google Analytics, a third-party service that collects and analyzes information about your visit. This service may collect information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites and other online services using cookies and other tracking. You may be able to manage how this happens by changing your browser’s cookie settings. Please note that we are not responsible for Google’s privacy practices, which you can review at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/.
Who we share your data with
In the course of our business, we may share your data with:
- Our affiliates
- Third parties that provide services to us, such as sending communications on our behalf, operating our website, checking comments through an automated spam detection service, and providing data analytics
- Where required by court order, or to prosecute or defend legal claims
- As part of a corporate restructure, such as a liquidation, reorganization, merger, sale of the company, consolidation, change of control, asset or stock acquisition/disposition, or other corporate combination. If that happens, we will use reasonable efforts to make sure the transferee uses your information in a manner consistent with this policy
We do not share your data with third parties for their direct-marketing purposes.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
You can opt out of receiving future commercial email messages from us by following the opt-out instructions in emails we send you, or by contacting us at: email@example.com. It may take up to ten (10) business days for us to process your opt-out request, and you may receive commercial messages from us during that period. Even if you opt out of receiving commercial messages, we may still correspond with you about your existing or past business relationships with us.
How we protect your data
We use technical, administrative, and physical security measures that are designed to protect personal data from loss, disclosure, misuse, and destruction. Please be aware, however, that no data security measures can guarantee that the website is free of threats or other vulnerabilities. You use the website and transmit information to us at your own risk.
